A tool for performing automated hypothesis-free "phenome-wide" scans in UK Biobank.
PHESANT tests the association of a specified trait (usually a genetic variant) with all continuous, integer and categorical variables in UK Biobank using a rule-based algorithm to determine how to appropriately test and model each trait, then performs the analyses and produces plots and summary tables. In relation to MR, any associations that are identified using PHESANT can then be followed up using formal MR analyses using the specified genetic variant as an instrumental variable (IV) for known exposure of interest (i.e., a trait that is known to be associated with that genetic variant).
